International Women’s Day is an opportunity to shine a light on executive champions who are committed to forging an inclusive world. Read the statement below from Rachel Foster, Director of HR & Education Strategy, to learn how we are inspiring equality, diversity, and inclusion within One Education and beyond.
I am happy to be able to say that I have worked at One Education since the company’s inception and I now hold the role of Director HR & Education Strategy. One Education is one of the largest education support companies in England, dedicated to our mission of supporting schools to support children. It is an organisation that works across a breadth of leadership, business and pupil facing services, and we are proud to be the partner of choice for schools and trusts across the country.
Alongside my working role, I volunteer as a MAT trustee and I have personally experienced the positivity of participating in WomenEd events, which offer guidance and mentoring for leaders in the education sector. With this experience, I am cognizant that within the UK’s education sector, the latest data shows that 75.8% of school teachers are women and in every ethnic group there are more female than male teachers.
One Education is committed to assisting women across the education sector, from those starting out in their careers and professionals specialising in bespoke roles, right through to aspiring leaders or, indeed, those who already hold well-established C-suite positions within MATs. We are there to support them at every phase of their careers with a wide range of training, networking opportunities, and resources that are constantly being adapted to reflect the educational landscape. Inclusion is embedded within every service we offer to the educational establishments we work with so that we are not only able to support female members of staff, but also female pupils from all backgrounds, enabling them to thrive both in their academic career and personal development.
One Education itself has a workforce of 67% women and we are delighted to say that this is exactly represented with women making up 67% of our service leaders. We have also had great success with our Apprenticeship Programme for young female professionals, which has resulted in offers of employment, as well as having a diverse group of female NEDs on the organisation’s board too. One Education has proudly established its own internal EDI working group for staff from all different areas across the company. One Education’s People Strategy is being designed to promote a culture that reflects our company values, with a view to develop a stimulating and motivating working environment for all staff, which really reflects the campaign theme for this year’s International Women’s Day: Inspire Inclusion.
