Safer Recruitment Refresher – Accredited by the Safer Recruitment Consortium
This half day accredited training, delivered by accredited trainers, will support your school to effectively discharge its responsibilities for safer recruitment. It is designed for anyone who has attended an accredited Safer Recruitment course in the last three years and will ensure their knowledge is refreshed, is up to date with the latest safer recruitment requirements in line with the current ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance and will renew your certificate to ensure your establishment is compliant.
When recruiting staff and/or volunteers into your school, staff must be trained in safer recruitments practices with at least one panel member having received the full accredited training.
Safer recruitment is at the heart of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and forms a key aspect of the inspection process. It is vital that Leaders create a culture of safe recruitment and, as part of that, adopt recruitment procedures that help deter, reject or identify people who are unsuitable to work in your school.
In addition to safer recruitment practices, schools must also create an open and safe culture with ongoing vigilance and safe working practices to enable unsafe practice to be challenged and to identify situations where there is cause for concern.
This course will:
- Provide context for school settings – we will discuss the prevalence of teacher prohibition, DBS barring and criminal convictions and to what extent this can be relied upon during a recruitment process
- The crucial steps required for a safer recruitment process, including the necessary pre-employment checks Provide an awareness and the confidence to fully explore with
- Provide an awareness and the confidence to fully explore with candidates their suitability to work with children within your school
- Consider how to develop and maintain a safer working culture

Any staff involved in recruitment and who have previously attended an accredited Safer Recruitment Course. *
