We are very excited to share that two members of our Literacy team have had their books published by Schofield & Sims!
Jo Gray, Head of School Development & Literacy, and Laura Lodge, Education Consultant & Reading Award Lead, were “thrilled to have been asked to write for Schofield and Sims”, sharing their knowledge of the teaching of Reading with a wider audience.
The Complete Comprehension series is designed to be a holistic approach to the teaching of Reading which prioritises teaching children the skills they need to be confident readers. The approach of the series is very much based on best practice and what we have seen works well in schools and settings. It is so much more than just ‘comprehension’.
Careful links have been made throughout to Phonics and reading fluency. The development of children’s vocabulary and activation of background knowledge is also a key part of each book. We have chosen an exciting range of high quality texts and made curriculum links across the series, with our aim being for children to be exposed to a wide range of genres and content, making connections in their learning.
For schools that already use our Reading Gems approach, the series is a natural extension to that, providing teachers with all the resources they need to teach Reading skills. The Key Stage 2 books in the series are due to be published later in the Summer.

Jo Gray: “It’s great to see the series come to fruition. It was a lot of hard work but i’m excited to see schools using the Year 1 book to support the development of Reading. For anyone looking to embed a text based curriculum, this would be a great starting point.”
Laura Lodge: “It’s been wonderful to hold a physical copy of my book after all the hard work it’s taken. I can’t wait to see schools using the resources for Year 2 and I’m looking forward to my Year 5 and Year 6 books for the series being published later in the Summer too!”
One Education are very proud of both their achievements and look forward to seeing the rest of the series published for KS2!
