This course ran twice last academic year and feedback from attendees was very positive.
Writing outcomes in Manchester and national data in 2024 confirm that, in many schools, the percentages of pupils achieving at the greater depth standard continues to remain below outcomes pre-pandemic. We know that there are many factors which limit pupils’ ability to write at the greater depth standard, ranging from problems caused by gaps in pupils’ learning to managing a wide range of abilities within one classroom.
This training will support Literacy leaders and Year 6 teachers in reviewing and evaluating their writing curriculum and determining how they can provide teaching and learning which more effectively meets the needs of writers who have the potential to achieve at the greater depth standard. The training will also look at the importance of developing oracy and how this will potentially lead to improved outcomes for all pupils, whatever their ability.
The training will also provide guidance on making accurate judgements of greater depth writing in all year groups as well as providing a wealth of ideas and strategies that can be used to support pupils who have the potential to write at the greater depth standard.
